Something old/something new
"Not Afraid" was the very first song I brought to Nashville.
Walking up to Hilltop Recording Studios that first day, truth be told, I was a little afraid. Of not having what it takes, of embarrassing myself, of not being prepared, of not knowing enough, of just failing miserably, in general....
On the way to the studio, I ran through "Not Afraid" and briefly changed the lyrics from "I'm not afraid" to "I'm so afraid!". I laughed at myself and fought the nerves in doing so, but it's terrible how fear tries to creep into the things you love and hope for. It can be so quiet until it's not. At that point there's a choice: to give in and give up or to stand and say, "I am not afraid".
When I began writing this song, I was talking to myself, but it is certainly not only for myself. My hope is that it encourages you. Especially right now when there's a lot of fear going around and so many dreams are being put on hold....
I loved working with Grant to take "Not Afraid" and make it shiny and new again! I hope you love it!
And I hope you're staying safe and well!
All the love,
Brittany
